What is Gopabandhu Sambadika Bima Yojana?
This scheme was launched by the Government of Odisha to provide life insurance cover to journalists. Many journalists face risk during their work, so under this yojana, financial protection is given to their families in case of accident, death or disability.
It’s named after Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, who himself was a great social worker and also supported journalism.

Eligibility for Gopabandhu Sambadika Bima Yojana
Not every person with a press card is eligible. There are some rules:

Must be a working journalist in Odisha.

Should be recognized/approved by the Information & Public Relations Department.

Age usually between 18 to 60 years.

Freelancers may not be included, mainly staff reporters & correspondents are covered.

How to Apply for Gopabandhu Sambadika Bima Yojana?
There is no direct online form for individuals. Application is mostly processed through the respective District Information & Public Relations Office (DIPRO).

Name is included in the approved list of beneficiaries.

Insurance coverage gets activated automatically.
Claim Process
In case of unfortunate incident (death/accident):

Family members of the journalist should inform DIPRO office.

Submit insurance claim form with death certificate or medical documents.

After verification, insurance company releases the insured amount.
