1. Key Benefits: What You Get

₹5 Lakh Annual Cover: Cashless and paperless treatment for secondary and tertiary care.

No Income Limit: Even if you pay income tax or have a large house, you are eligible if you are 70+.

Pre-Existing Diseases Covered: Unlike private insurance, chronic issues like BP, Diabetes, or Heart conditions are covered from Day 1.

Top-Up Feature: If your family is already covered under PM-JAY, the senior citizen gets an additional ₹5 lakh exclusively for themselves.
2. Eligibility Criteria

Age: Must be 70 years or older (verified via Aadhaar).

Aadhaar Mandatory: Aadhaar is the primary document used for e-KYC.

Choice of Scheme: If you are already using CGHS (Central Govt Health Scheme) or ECHS (Ex-Servicemen), you have to choose between keeping your current scheme or switching to Ayushman Bharat. (Note: Those with private insurance can keep both).
3. How to Apply Online (2026 Process)
The process has been simplified through the Ayushman App.

Download the App: Get the “Ayushman App” from the Google Play Store.

Login: Select “Beneficiary” and enter your mobile number. Verify with the OTP.

Search for Senior: Enter the Aadhaar details of the person aged 70+.

e-KYC: If the name isn’t found, the app will ask you to perform a fresh e-KYC. You’ll need to take a live photo of the senior citizen and verify their Aadhaar via OTP.

Download Card: Once approved (usually within 15–30 minutes), the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card can be downloaded directly to your phone.
4. Where Can You Use This Card?
The card is valid at all empaneled hospitals (both government and private) across India.
Pro-Tip: In Delhi, the coverage is even higher! By combining central and state funds, many seniors in the capital now have access to up to ₹10 lakh in specialized coverage.
