The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has announced its prestigious Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2025, offering a golden opportunity for students passionate about human rights, law, and social justice. Scheduled from 16th June to 11th July 2025, this four-week program is designed to provide academic insights, field exposure, and interactions with key stakeholders working in the realm of human rights.

🎓 Who Can Apply?

NHRC welcomes applications from students across India, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Law Students:
    • Completed 1st year and currently in 2nd or 3rd year of 3-year LLB course
    • Completed 3 years or 6 semesters of a 5-year integrated law program (e.g., BA LLB)
  • Postgraduates & Social Science Students:
    • Students pursuing LLM, MA in Human Rights, PG Diploma in Human Rights, or PG in disciplines like Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Public Administration, Criminology, International Relations, etc. (Final-year students preferred)
  • Academic Requirements:
    • Minimum 65% marks in Class 12 and all subsequent semesters
    • Age must be below 28 years as of 1st May 2025
    • Must be enrolled in a regular course in a UGC-recognized university

✍️ Selection Process

  • Submit a 300–500 word SOP on “Why you want to intern at NHRC” while filling out the online form
  • Selection will be based on a 100-mark merit list:
    • Class 12 marks: 30
    • Graduation marks: 40
    • SOP: 30
  • Past participants of NHRC SIP/WIP are not eligible

⏰ Important Dates

  • Last Date to Apply: 20th May 2025 (6:00 PM)
  • Internship Dates: 16th June to 11th July 2025
  • Mode of Application: Online only via nhrc.nic.in

  • Interactive Sessions: Around 70–75 expert-led lectures on human rights themes
  • Special Interactions: Meetings with NHRC Chairperson and Members
  • Research & Book Review: Engage in thematic projects and reviews
  • Field Visits: Police stations, prisons, NGOs, Parliament, SC/ST/Women/Child Commissions, and the Supreme Court
  • Film Discussions: Focused on child labour, trafficking, education, and more

🚪 Application Instructions

  • Apply only through NHRC’s official portal: nhrc.nic.in
  • Upload all mark sheets from 10th onwards and a valid Letter of Recommendation (LOR) signed by HOD/Dean/Principal (dated after release of this notice)
  • Attach SOP and caste/PWD certificate if applicable
  • Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected. No email/postal applications accepted
