This financial aid is a onetime support for those who are in dire financial stress and have no other avenue. To avail this aid, the deceased expatriate should have been a legal resident or employee at the country where he/she had passed away. This help is granted to legal heirs of NRKs for repatriation by air or rail, whichever is more economical. This support is extended only in the instances of extreme financial distress where his/her legal heirs does not have any other avenue of support.

The NORKA Death Assistance Scheme is a one-time financial support initiative for families of Non-Resident Keralites.

⚰️ Scope of Financial Assistance

Death Abroad ₹50,000
Death Outside Kerala (Within India) ₹15,000

This aid helps cover repatriation charges (by air/rail), embalming, mortuary expenses, and other relevant costs. The support is granted only in genuine cases of financial hardship, ensuring that those without support get timely assistance.


👤 Who is Eligible for This Support?

This financial aid can be availed under the following conditions:

✅ For Death Abroad:

  • The deceased must have held a valid Indian passport.

  • He/she should have been a legal resident or employee in the country of death.

  • Death must have occurred during an active stay for work or employment purposes.

✅ For Death in Other Indian States:

  • The deceased must have moved outside Kerala for work or employment.

  • A valid residence certificate from the respective state government is required.

🔍 Note: This assistance is not for those who already received support from employers, sponsors, or other government bodies.


📄 Required Documents (Scanned Copies in JPEG Format)

To apply, the applicant (legal heir) must submit:

  1. Cancelled Indian Passport of the deceased

  2. Death Certificate

  3. Work Permit / Employment Proof

  4. Legal Heirship Certificate

  5. Proof of relationship with the deceased

  6. Applicant’s Income Proof

  7. Voter ID / Aadhaar (ID proof of applicant)

  8. Certificate from the employer/sponsor confirming no payment was made for repatriation

  9. Bills/Receipts for:

    • Embalming

    • Mortuary Charges

    • Hospital Charges

    • Transportation

  10. Declaration proving that the applicant personally bore the expenses

  11. For deaths within India but outside Kerala – Certificate of Residence from the concerned state authority
