If you’re planning to seek blessings at the Himalayan shrines this month, there’s one document more important than your train ticket: your Yatra Registration Letter (QR Code).

As of May 6, 2026, the rush for the “Chardham e-Pass” is at an all-time high. With Kedarnath and Badrinath now fully open, the Uttarakhand government is using a GPS-based system to monitor crowd limits. If you show up at Sonprayag or Janki Chatti without a valid QR code, you will likely be turned back.

Here is the “No-Nonsense” guide to getting registered and avoiding the common technical glitches we’ve seen so far this season.

📅 The 2026 Yatra Calendar

All four Dhams are now open for the summer season. Here are the dates you need for your itinerary:

  • Yamunotri & Gangotri: Opened April 19, 2026 (Akshaya Tritiya).

  • Kedarnath: Opened April 22, 2026.

  • Badrinath: Opened April 23, 2026.

  • Hemkund Sahib: Set to open May 23, 2026.

🛠️ How to Register (3 Fastest Ways)

You don’t need to pay a single rupee for registration. It is 100% Free.

1. The WhatsApp Method (Easiest)

If you’re on the go, this is the quickest way.

  • Message: Type “YATRA” and send it to +91-8394833833.

  • Process: An automated bot will guide you through the details. It’s perfect for individual pilgrims.

2. The Official Portal (Best for Groups)

Go to registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in.

  • Pro-Tip: If the site feels slow during the day, try between 10 PM and 7 AM.

  • Action: You’ll need to upload a digital copy of your Aadhaar (or Voter ID/Passport). Make sure the file is under 150KB or the portal will throw an “Upload Error.”

3. The “Tourist Care” App

Download the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app from the Play Store. This is useful because it also provides real-time weather alerts and emergency contact numbers directly from the state control room.

🚁 A Warning on Helicopter Bookings

I’ve seen many pilgrims getting scammed by fake websites promising “Cheap Kedarnath Heli-Tickets.” The Rule: In 2026, the ONLY authorized platform for helicopter tickets is heliyatra.irctc.co.in.

  • You cannot even log into the IRCTC heli-portal without your Yatra Registration Number.

  • Complete your Yatra registration first, then use that ID to book your flight.

🏥 Health & High Altitude: 2026 Guidelines

The trek to Kedarnath (18km) is no joke, especially with the erratic weather we’ve had this May.

  • Age Factor: If you are 55+ or have a history of heart issues/diabetes, the health department now “strongly recommends” a fitness check-up before starting the climb.

  • Acclimatization: Spend at least 24 hours in Rishikesh or Barkot before heading to the higher Dhams. Sudden jumps in altitude are the leading cause of breathlessness among pilgrims.

  • Pack This: A basic pulse oximeter, portable oxygen cans (available in Sonprayag), and rain gear. It can go from 20°C to 2°C in minutes.

🔍 “My name is not on the list!” (Troubleshooting)

If you registered but haven’t received your PDF:

  1. Log back into the portal and check the “List of Pilgrims” section.

  2. If it says “Pending,” your Aadhaar verification is stuck.

  3. The Fix: Use the WhatsApp method instead—it’s much faster for manual overrides.

Are you traveling with a private vehicle? You’ll need a “Green Card” for your car to enter the hill tracks—let me know if you want the link to the transport department’s 2026 portal!
