If you’ve been following the news in Kerala lately, you know the old paper-and-ink land maps are finally being retired. The government’s “Ente Bhoomi” mission is currently drone-mapping over 1,500 villages to create a high-tech digital locker for our land records.

Why should you care? Because if your village has already been “digitized,” your life just got a whole lot easier. You can stop making those exhausting trips to the Village Office just to beg for a sketch or an FMB copy. Everything is moving to the Ente Bhoomi portal—if you know where to look.
1. How to Check Your Village Status (May 2026 Update)
The Kerala Survey and Land Records Department isn’t doing this all at once. They are working in phases, and as of May 2026, Phase 4 is in full swing.
Here is the quick way to check if your land is “Online”:
-
Head over to the Ente Bhoomi Portal.
-
Find the “Public Services” tab. It’s usually on the main dashboard.
-
Scan the “9(2) Notification List.” This is the magic list. If your village is here, it means the survey is legally finalized. Your digital record is now the official one—the old paper version is officially “legacy” data.
2. Which Districts are Leading the Race?
Some areas are moving much faster than others. If you own property in these spots, there’s a high chance your data is already live:
-
Thiruvananthapuram: Most of the city and its fringes (think Thiruvallam and Kudappanakunnu) were digitized early.
-
Ernakulam: The Kochi metro belt is a high priority. If you’re in the industrial or IT corridors, you’re likely already on the digital map.
-
Kasargod: Villages like Balla and Puthukkai were part of the early successful pilots and are fully functional online.
3. Why This “Digitized” Label is a Big Deal
It’s not just about convenience; it’s about safety.
-
Instant Mutation (Pokkuvaravu): Since the Revenue and Registration departments now “talk” to each other through the same digital map, property transfers happen almost instantly.
-
No More Boundary Fights: The new surveys use GPS with a tiny 5cm margin of error. It’s hard for a neighbor to move a fence when the satellite says exactly where it belongs.
-
FMBs on Demand: You can download your Measurement Book (FMB) from your living room. No more waiting weeks for a clerk to find a dusty file.
4. Stuck on the “Old” System? (E-Rekha vs. Ente Bhoomi)
Don’t get confused between the two portals.
-
If your village IS digitized, use Ente Bhoomi.
-
If it IS NOT yet digitized, you still have to use the old E-Rekha portal.
Think of E-Rekha as the digital archive for the “old world” and Ente Bhoomi as the portal for the “new world.”
💡 A Word of Advice for Landowners
If you see drones flying over your village or those yellow survey stones appearing, pay attention!
-
Show Up: If you can, be present when the surveyors arrive.
-
Check the “Rough Map”: After the drone flight, the village office will post a draft map. Check it immediately. You only have a small window to complain if your plot looks wrong. Once it hits the portal as “Digitally Final,” it’s much harder to change.
