It’s a nightmare scenario for any Indian entrepreneur. You search through your emails, dig through old WhatsApp chats, and scan your downloads folder—but that 19-digit number is nowhere to be found. Without it, you can’t download your certificate, and without the certificate, you lose out on the 45-day payment protection and MSME subsidies that keep your business running.

But here is some good news for May 2026: You don’t need to hire a consultant, and you definitely don’t need to re-register.

The Ministry of MSME has built a “safety net” directly into the portal. If you have your registered mobile phone in your hand, you are less than two minutes away from recovering your lost ID and downloading your PDF. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the official, 100% free way to retrieve your Udyam Certificate using just an OTP—even if you’ve completely forgotten your registration number.

Step 1: Recover Your “Lost” Udyam Number

Since the download page requires your Udyam Number to log in, you first need to “find” it.

  1. Go to the official portal: udyamregistration.gov.in.

  2. In the top menu, click on the “Print / Verify” tab.

  3. Select the option “Forgot Udyam / UAM No.”

  4. Choose “Udyam Registration” as your registration type.

  5. Select your OTP Option: Choose “Mobile” to receive the code on your phone.

  6. Enter your Registered Mobile Number and click “Validate & Generate OTP.”

Once you enter the OTP, your Udyam Registration Number (URN) will appear on the screen and be sent to you via SMS. Copy this number immediately.

Step 2: Download the Certificate (The Final Step)

Now that you have your URN back, you can proceed to the download:

  1. Go back to the “Print / Verify” menu and select “Print Udyam Certificate.”

  2. Enter your Udyam Registration Number (the one you just recovered).

  3. Enter your Registered Mobile Number.

  4. Choose “OTP on Mobile” and click “Validate & Generate OTP.”

  5. After entering the code, your dashboard will open. Click the “Print Certificate” button at the top to save it as a PDF.

🛠️ Troubleshooting: “What if my mobile number has changed?”

This is a common issue in 2026. If the mobile number you used during registration is no longer active, you cannot use the “Forgot Number” tool because the OTP won’t reach you.

  • The Fix: You must first update your mobile number via the Aadhaar portal (UIDAI). Since Udyam is linked to your Aadhaar, once your number is updated in the Aadhaar database, you can use the “Update Udyam” section with your Aadhaar OTP to sync the new number to your business profile.

⚠️ A Reminder for May 2026

  • It’s FREE: Never pay a website to “retrieve” your number. The “Forgot Udyam” tool is a free government service.

  • Check the URL: Ensure the site ends in .gov.in. Fake sites often use the words “Udyam” and “Registration” to trick you into paying a fee.

  • One-Time Recovery: Once you download your PDF, save it to your Google Drive or email it to yourself with the subject line “UDYAM CERTIFICATE” so you never lose it again.

Did you get an “Invalid URN” error even after recovery?

This usually happens due to a typing error (zero ‘0’ vs letter ‘O’). Drop a comment if you’re stuck, and I’ll help you figure out the exact error code!
