The portal asks for a 19-digit Udyam Registration Number (URN), and it’s nowhere to be found in your immediate notes.

Don’t worry. Whether you’ve lost the number entirely or just can’t find the specific email from the Ministry, there are three official ways to recover it as of May 2026.
1. The “OTP Rescue” Method (Fastest)
The official Udyam portal has a dedicated “Forgot Number” tool that works with just your phone.

Before you give up, try a deep search in your email inbox. Many people miss the original confirmation because it comes from a government server.

Search for these keywords: “Udyam Registration Confirmation,” “Ministry of MSME,” or “udyamregistration.gov.in.”

The Format: Look for a string that starts with UDYAM-XX-00-XXXXXXX. (The ‘XX’ represents your state code, like KL for Kerala or TN for Tamil Nadu).
3. The “Bank Statement” or “GST” Hack
If you’ve ever used your MSME status for a business benefit, the number might be hiding in your existing records:

GST Portal: If you linked your Udyam to your GST profile, it may be listed under your “Business Details.”

Bank Loan Documents: If you applied for a MUDRA loan or any MSME credit line, your Udyam number will be mentioned in the loan sanction letter.

GeM Portal: If you are a seller on the Government e-Marketplace, your Udyam ID is likely saved in your profile settings.
⚠️ Why You Shouldn’t Just “Start a New Registration”
If you’ve forgotten your number, you might be tempted to just register again from scratch. Stop!

Aadhaar Conflict: The system is linked to your Aadhaar and PAN. If you try to register the same business again, the portal will show an error: “Aadhaar/PAN already exists.”

Legal Continuity: Your original registration date determines your seniority for government tenders and the 45-day payment rule. If you “start over” (even if the system allowed it), you lose those years of established business history.
