The online system at PGI isn’t exactly a “doctor slot booking” like private hospitals. Instead, it’s a Pre-Registration system. You fill in your details at home, and the hospital prepares your file in advance. This means when you arrive, you go to a dedicated, much faster counter.

📅 The Timeline: When to Book?
-
Advance Booking: You can book up to 30 days in advance.
-
Same Day Booking: You can register as late as 6:00 AM on the actual day of your visit.
-
Validity: Your pre-registration is only valid for the specific date you chose. If you don’t show up, your data is wiped, and you have to start over.
🔑 Step-by-Step: How to Pre-Register
-
The Portal: Visit the PGIMER Official Registration Page.
-
New vs. Old Patient: * Select “No” if you have never been to PGI before.
-
Select “Yes” if you have a CR Number (Central Registration Number) from a previous visit.
-
-
Choose Your Department: Select the specialty (e.g., Cardiology, ENT, Pediatrics).
-
Pro-Tip: If the “Available Visit Date” isn’t loading, check your browser settings and allow pop-up windows. This is a common technical glitch.
-
-
Enter Details: Fill in the patient’s name, age, gender, and mobile number.
-
The SMS: Once you click “Register,” you will receive an Online Pre-Registration Number via SMS. Keep this safe; it’s your “Golden Ticket.“
🏥 On the Day of the Visit: The “Real” Registration
Having the SMS is only half the battle. You still need a physical OPD Card to see the doctor.
-
Where to Go: Head to the Special Online Registration Counter in the New OPD building.
-
The Timings (Strict):
-
Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
-
Saturday/Holidays: 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM
-
-
The Process: Show your SMS/Email to the clerk. They will instantly print your OPD card. You now have a permanent CR Number—write this down! You will use it for all future visits and to download lab reports online.
💡 2026 Troubleshooting & Advice
-
“Payment Pending”: If you are a paying patient, keep your cards/UPI ready. If you are exempt (EWS/BPL), you must bring your original certificates to the counter; otherwise, they will charge you the standard fee.
-
Lab Reports: You don’t need to visit the hospital to get results. Use your CR Number on the PGI Lab Reports Portal to download them as PDFs.
-
Rescheduling: If something comes up, use the Reschedule/Cancel link on the main portal. Don’t just “not show up,” as it blocks the slot for others who might need it.
Final Thoughts
PGI is one of the busiest hospitals in North India. While the online system helps, the hospital will still be crowded. Arriving at the counter by 8:30 AM is the best way to ensure you finish your consultation by lunch.
